Wish
history
Wish´s
history is like most bands, not a straight way to
a fortunate pop-career. Important coincidences
occurred along the way, like blinking
traffic-lights on the roadside. But lets take it
from the start. Bengt Johansson decided
to start a band, almost ten years ago. Together
with good friends good music would be made, but
as often, the ambitions among members was mixed,
and a lot of people came and went. After three
years with different line-ups, the band found its
form, and also a name "Wish"...
The first
CD "Wish" got excellent reviews in
Swedish press, and was called 1995 years best
debut of Swedish pop bands. Radio-channels all
over Scandinavia loved "Wish" and
played everything from the album. About 50
channels in Norway played their songs regularly.
It went "record of the week" on the
Danish national radio. In May, the first single
"Wonderland" was released on license,
by Irish "Danceline records", who fell
in love with Wish´s music. It resulted in five
playlist positions, and quite a lot of press.
From Japan the publishing-company Fujipacific
Inc. contacted Helikopter records, regarding a
license-deal with Edoya records. The songs
"Snowflakes" and "Fool for
love" was released on a compilation-album,
called "Swedish Sweets" which sold
approx. 10.000 copies. Later the whole album was
released, and sold about 3000 copies. In November
95 Helikopter released the single
"Snowflakes" in Sweden, which went into
the charts. Later on, the video of that song went
into the video-charts of Z-TV (the Swedish music
TV-channel) for 8 weeks, new record for the
chart. The Swedish National TV, invited the group
in February 96. The program became very popular.
During Spring 96 a new album was recorded.
In June,
the single "Sundrops" was released,
Wish´s greatest single success so far. The video
went straight into the Z-TV playlist, and even
MTV-Europe, showed the video. So on August 30
"Temporary Love and Hate" was released,
a very strong and mature follow-up. Bengt
Johansson´s songwriting-talent almost reach
perfection, and Anja Ryne´s voice is
irresistible. The CD is today Helikopter´s, and
Wish´s biggest success so far. In the end of the
year, the second single follow-up
"Citylights" was released.
During the
Fall, negotiations started with German record
company, Dogondke Media / Viceroy records
concerning a license deal, in the GAS-countries.
The deal was settled this Spring, and Wish made a
German tour, including all the big cities Berlin,
Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, etc. The reception was
very positive, and German press loves the CD
"Temporary Love and Hate".
"Sundrops" went on the play-lists of
the biggest radio-syndicates, and the video made
a break-through on the video chart of Germany's
biggest music TV-channel, RTL. In June, the
second single, "In Love", was released
in Germany, and a radio promotion tour, was made.
"Snowflakes", one of Wish's most
successful singles during times, will be released
in connection with the German Christmas trade.
Wish will
go into the studio in the end of November, to
start recording a new CD-album. The third album
of this eminent orchestra will concur the World
next year. Y.B.!
